Recentemente, um grupo de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o do MIT desenvolveu um sistema que permite que plantas vivas de espinafre comuniquem com smartphones, alertando para a presen\u00e7a de contaminantes no solo.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-8ee8570 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"8ee8570\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-f50abbd\" data-id=\"f50abbd\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-00b4f63 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"00b4f63\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A contamina\u00e7\u00e3o dos solos e aqu\u00edferos com compostos nitroarom\u00e1ticos \u00e9 um problema cada vez maior, tanto em pa\u00edses desenvolvidos como em desenvolvimento. H\u00e1 muitas abordagens para detetar estes compostos, mas nenhuma t\u00e3o inovadora como a que foi desenvolvida por Wong <em>et al.<\/em>, do MIT.<\/p><p>Para atingir esse objetivo, os investigadores desenvolveram nanopart\u00edculas a partir da combina\u00e7\u00e3o de nanotubos de carbono (SWCNT \u2013 <em>single-walled carbon nanotubes<\/em>) com a prote\u00edna bambolitina (B-SWCNT) ou com o pol\u00edmero PVA (P-SWCNT). Estas part\u00edculas emitem fluoresc\u00eancia na gama do infravermelho, mas a intensidade de fluoresc\u00eancia das B-SWCNT \u00e9 diminu\u00edda na presen\u00e7a de compostos nitroarom\u00e1ticos, o que permite a sua dete\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p><p>As nanopart\u00edculas assim desenvolvidas foram, depois, usadas para infiltrar folhas de espinafre (que n\u00e3o foi modificado de qualquer outra forma). Dado que os contaminantes do solo s\u00e3o internalizados pela planta e chegam \u00e0s folhas, o sinal de fluoresc\u00eancia emitido pelas zonas infiltradas com B-SWCNT \u00e9 atenuado em solos polu\u00eddos com nitroarom\u00e1ticos; as zonas infiltradas com P-SWCNT funcionam como controlo.<\/p><p>Deste modo, a dete\u00e7\u00e3o dos contaminantes, atrav\u00e9s da medi\u00e7\u00e3o de fluoresc\u00eancia, pode ser feita usando uma c\u00e2mara de infravermelhos num <em>smartphone<\/em> ou, como na investiga\u00e7\u00e3o em causa, num <em>Raspberry Pi<\/em>.
